| An intensive course that includes an introduction to information literacy instruction, learning theory, teaching methods, and the relationship between information needs and instruction. Great for students who plan to or will be required to deliver instruction. |
| There are four major assignments: a group project in which you will lead a class discussion, an evaluation of a Web-based guide, an evaulation of a live instruction session, and a 30 minute instruction session that you will create and present. In addition, there is a heavy reading load. |
This is a crash course in learning and teaching theory, instructional methods, and instructional issues in libraries.
If you have no teaching experience, this is a great introductory course. This class will prepare you to teach information literacy sessions using the latest technology. Currently, most reference librarians are required to teach courses on information literacy.
If you are interested in working as a reference librarian in an academic library and have little or no teaching experience, you must try to work this course into your schedule. Inteviewers and search committees really do look for this in job applicants.
