7160 Advanced Online Searching

Page history last edited by Anonymous 2 yrs ago

Advanced topics in online searching using broad range of databases, including Internet resources. Topics include: sophisticated search strategies, competitive intelligence, retrieval and organization of citations.

This class is usually done as a week long course, so take a vacation if you have a job. You'll be required to do database searching for two faculty members which will be due towards the end of the semester (approximately 30 hours on each). During the lecture periods, you will also do a small group presentation of selected readings or the text book. And lastly, each student will do a pathfinder or database review and a short (2 page) lessons learned posting on Blackboard. During the semester, students will have logins for Dialog, Lexis-Nexis, and West Law.

I recommend this course for anyone planning to do reference in an academic library.
